This area was also concurrently devastated by an avalanche of rocks and mud from the Las Casitas volcano. The effect of this total disaster was enormous: dead: 2,170; wounded 228; missing 970; affected 419,161.

Lucina (Lucy) Artigas, M.A., begins by engaging the children in a game.

The Butterfly Hug or “Hug of self love” was developed by Lucy (Co-founder of our association), during our work performed with the survivors of Hurricane Paulina in Acapulco Mexico (1997).

For the creation and development of this technique Lucina Artigas was honored in 2000, by the EMDR International Association, with the Creative Innovation Award.
